NEW! - Oregon Paid Family Medical Leave (PFML)

On August 9, 2019, Governor Kate Brown signed House Bill 2005 into law.  This new law establishes a paid family and medical leave program for all employees in Oregon beginning September 3, 2023.  There is a 1% tax that will begin September 3, 2023 (for FGSD employees).  Employees will pay 60% of the tax and employers will pay 40%.  You will see this new deduction (OR PFML) on your September paycheck.

1.  Contact The Standard Insurance Company at 866-756-8115 and reference the following:  Forest Grove School District, policy #762416
          • You should apply 30 days before your leave begins when you know about the leave in advance
          • You should apply within 30 days after your first absence if the leave is an unexpected emergency  Applications filed after 30 days after the first day of your leave may be denied
2.  Notify HR as soon as possible that you will be out on an Oregon Paid Family Medical Leave
3.  Fill out a Protected Leave form and send it to the HR office
4.  Indicate on the Protected Leave form if you want to backfill your pay from The Standard with your sick leave and/or personal leave*

*note:  all absences for an Oregon Paid Family Medical Leave (OR PFML) should be entered in Frontline as OR PFML Long Term or OR PFML Intermittent and pay will be docked from your paychecks while you are receiving pay from The Standard.  The law allows you to use your paid leave to make up the difference between your dock and the amount that you are paid from The Standard, but you MUST notify the payroll department in writing for this to happen (indicating that you want to do this on the Protected Leave form will suffice).

Note about PERS service credit

A PERS member cannot earn service credit for any month in which they are reported as on a leave without pay (OR PFML absences of 11 or more business days in a calendar month are reported as leave without pay).
