Dear FGSD Families,
I continue to hope for the safety and wellbeing of those in our community that are being affected by the wildfires. There are many in our community who are dealing with the immediate effects of the fires and I’m sure many others who have family and friends who are impacted as well. We have been encouraged by the generosity of our community and their willingness to help their neighbors and those who are evacuated. Please be safe and look for ways to lend assistance when and where you can.
With school starting on Monday, I want to let you know that our teachers and staff have worked extremely hard to prepare to welcome your students back into an environment of learning and connection. This is going to be a school year to remember. There are many new things to learn and adjust to as we try to educate students virtually. My hope is that we will work together with patience and understanding as we start again and get used to a new way of doing things.
If you have questions, which I’m sure you do, please reach out to your students’ teachers and building administrators. They will do their absolute best to get you what you need to help your students get started in this new school year and to be successful in their work.
As we start this year amidst some very troubling times, I want to extend my feelings of hope. Adversity and trials, while daunting, can often help us be creative, compassionate and find resolve that we would not have found otherwise. Do your best. We will do our best. And together, we will get through these hardships.

Important Information
Childcare
The district has partnered with Champions, a local childcare provider, who is offering full day childcare for FGSD staff and the community. If you are interested in enrolling your child/children (ages 5-12), please visit their website to enroll. The FGSD childcare sites will be at Fern Hill and Tom McCall. The approximate cost per child, per week is $238, with a discount for multiple children from a family. There are also subsidy programs for childcare with certain qualifications (see the graphic to the right). Meal Distribution
Beginning September 14th and running through December 31st, the district is offering meals to all children 1-18 years old -- free of charge. On the district website, you will find schedules for curbside grab and go meals at four school locations. You will also find bus delivery schedules with locations throughout the district where families will not have to travel far to access meals. If you have any questions regarding meals, please contact our Nutrition Services department at (503-359-8110 x 4524).
Visiting school buildings
To ensure the safety of staff, students and the community, we strongly encourage you to limit your in-person interactions at the school buildings. If you need to meet with school principals or staff, please contact the school office to schedule a meeting. We will be conducting as many meetings as possible through Zoom video conferencing or over the phone. If you plan to attend a meeting at a building, please be prepared to wear a mask, sanitize and stay six feet apart.
Technology/Device Distribution
In preparation for the 20-21 school year and CDL, the district is providing the opportunity for parents to request a computer and/or internet access assistance. Please fill out this request form to request a device. You will be able to pick up the device on the designated pickup/drive thru day for your student’s school. Please contact the school to learn the pickup/drive-thru schedule. If your student already has a device that was issued last year, they will continue to use the same device and there will be no need to request or pick up a device.

Sigo esperando por la seguridad y el bienestar de aquellos en nuestra comunidad que están siendo afectados por los incendios forestales. Hay muchos en nuestra comunidad que están lidiando con los efectos inmediatos de los incendios y estoy seguro de que muchos otros tienen familiares y amigos que también se ven afectados. Cuidado de niños
El distrito se ha asociado con Champions, un proveedor de cuidado infantil local, que ofrece cuidado infantil de día completo para el personal de FGSD y la comunidad. Visitar edificios escolares
